Liberal Arts Essential A00039 English Conversation I 2.00
This course is to improve students' communicative competence in English and understandings of the Western culture. The students practice listening and speaking through activities in pairs and in a small group as well as in a teacher-to-student interaction. With linguistic and cultural approaches, learners are engaged in expanding their knowledge of English vocabulary and grammar, and in understanding a variety of sentence structures to help the learners use them in a real situation. Also skills for standard tests like the TOEIC are taught. Since this course needs language practice, the students are advised to aggressively participate in class with their best efforts.
Liberal Arts Elective A00101 Comprehension of Art in Space 2.00
‘Art in Space’ means the art of architecture, paintings and sculpture. The course “Comprehension of Art in Space” has developed as a liberal arts course for the overall university students within various major studies, and for the purpose of understanding the visual objects through architecture, paintings and sculpture of Western and Korean culture. And the course is based upon the trends and short history of architecture within the scope of main buildings and cityscape.
Liberal Arts Elective A00965 Contemporary Philosophy in Film 2.00
This lecture aims to explain sophisticated philosophical subjects with the vidual aid of the film. In particular, we will approach philosophical problems of modern philosophy more effectively through images and will present interpretations and solutions for those problems. More specifically, we will focus on discussing the changes human, social, and global issues face with the advent of the knowledge-based economy and present a countermeasure to cope with a new era. Therefore, this course deals with philosophy of knowledge and information, changes of labour types, sex and sex discrimination, life and death, science and technology, power and knowledge, normal and abnormal, environment and philosophy, and the majority and minority relationship. It will broaden the students' scope of the ability of reason for specific challenges and issues.
Liberal Arts Elective A00979 The Korean history and culture 2.00
This course encourages the students to make a cultural approach towards history and develop a deep understanding of the Korean history and culture. It tries to understand the structure, individuals, social systems and human practice in an integrated fashion rather than pursuing cultural history as a disciplinary history. It also interprets the events and cultural phenomena in the past and uses the findings to understand the present and have visions for the future.
Liberal Arts Elective A00981 Chinese characters for everyday life 2.00
This class aims to develop student's communication ability through studying Chinese characters, fables and phrases which are necessary to everyday life.
Basic Essential B01221 Special Topics in Literature 2.00
This course is designed to provide students with a general understanding and appreciation of English literature. The course leads students to learn the fundamental characters of literature and appreciate various genres of literature. Moreover, students will practice to interpret each selected literary text with their own eyes and show their own critical point of views on each literary text.

Linguistics studies the nature of language which is the medium of communication. This study is done in terms of universality and the government of language rules. By studying the unique features of the humanity of the language, we can better understand human beings as a talking and thinking animal.
