Civil and Environmental Engineering was the firstly born engineering as a discipline of academic study. It is a field to educate technology of developing, amending, and maintaining our environment for us to live civilized and cultural life. It includes technologies of planning, designing, conducting and managing on the one hand the infrastructure needed for urban life such as housing, parks, transport and logistics, life line facilities of electricity, communications, water ways and gas, and on the other hand the infrastructure needed for society like bridges, dams, harbors, airports, nuclear power plants, plants Also, it encompasses the technology of preventing against disasters. Such safeguarding technologies to protect humans and facilities against natural disasters such as earthquakes and storms are important areas.

Environmental engineering is an academic field that develops technology as well as applies scientific and engineering knowledge to maintain our live comfortable and convenient against various sorts of pollutants that result from our lives and industry. Our department primarily focuses on analysis of problems and proposing solutions regarding water ways, sewage, wastes and air pollution. Emphasis lies on technology involved in planning, designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining environment infrastructure and bio-industrial complex. We also deal with pollution in rivers, lakes, and oceans. Our department also concerns with developing pollution control technology, controlling subterranean and soil contamination, eliminating red and green tide, malodor, noise, vibration, carcinogenic substances, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals.

Recently concern about sustainable development is on high rise due to climate changes and environmental problems. This requires combining architecture engineering with civil and environmental engineering. As such the department offers these two consorted into one. As we see ‘remodeling and creation of infrastructure’, ‘environment friendly development’ ‘sustainable construction will be an agenda for the future so that the Department aims at producing human resources demanded for these areas.
Educational objectives
The educational goal of the Department is to produce civil and environmental engineers who can contribute to sustainable development and environment preservation. To this end we set the following objectives.

- To nurture fundamental values like leadership, management skills, volunteerism, ethical principle, responsibility and communicative ability

- To develop ability to understand, analyze and apply fundamentals to actively cope with civil and environmental engineering issues

-To build applicative ability to creatively handle all issues involved in making an environment friendly plan and control aimed at sustainable development and cross-discipline problem solving ability
