Department of Police Science

1. Introduction

The department of Police Science is newly established in 2005 to meet the growing demand of police as one’s profession. Since then it has produced many graduates of passing the police officers examinations and of other professional jobs.
The faculty consists of full-time professors, part-time lecturers who majored in police science, law, administration, and other relevant fields. Also professionals from the local police, the fire department, the correction institute, the National Intelligence Service, the prosecutor office, and the court are included for the faculty.

2. Curriculum

The three basic areas offered are police science, criminology, and security science. Through police science course, students learn organization and operation of police. In criminology classes, students study causes and phenomenon of crimes as well as the responses against crimes. With security science courses, they learn phenomenon and activities of private security.

・Police Investigation -Basics of criminal investigation, investigation administration and application of information
・Introduction to Fire Science Technology - Fire services activities and fire office administration
・History of Korean Police – Korean history and history of Korean police
・Penology – correction as the final stage of criminal justice
・Constitutional Law- Fundamentals of operating government and coverage of people’s basic rights ・Criminal Law- Crimes and punishments
・Criminal Procedure Law - Law for criminal procedure
・Martial Arts and Arresting Techniques- Building healthy body and practicing techniques necessary in dealing with criminals

・Criminology – Understanding of cause, phenomenon, measures of crimes and analysis of crimes
・Public Administration Science- Understanding of organization, policy application, personnel administration of police
・Criminal Psychology- Analysis of actions and psychology of criminals and handling criminals ・Research Methodology- Understanding research methodology of social sciences and its application to criminology
・Private Security Science- Understanding of laws, current status and operation of private security
・Victimology- Understanding of cause, phenomenon, measures of victims and problem solving regarding victim's rights
. Juvenile Crime- Understanding of cause, phenomenon, measures of juvenile crimes
・Comparative Police System – Comparison of the developed countries’ police system

3. Extracurricular Clubs

☐P.L.C(Police Line Club)
Police Line refers to a line drawn in a criminal scene to protect a criminal site. It usually draws with a DO NOT CROSS sign. Namely only investigation personnel are allowed to cross the line. The club P.L.C is an organization of students who are able to walk over ‘Police Line'. This is an career-oriented club and as they aim to become police officers, high ranking police cadets, workers in the prosecutors or court office. Mainly they study English and the subjects that are necessary for examinations for the above mentioned jobs.

FI is a study club which is established by students who want to be high ranking police cadets. Every week members meet supervising professors, exchange information, and study for the examination.

☐PS(Private Security)
PS is an career-oriented study club which is established by students who want to work in private security areas. Members study a wide range of security in and out of the nation such as industrial facilities, convoy, protect of people, special guard, and guard of machinery. They study private security science, introduction to law, guard law, criminology fire law, and guard science for the examination of the security officer certificates. Every year 10 members pass the examination.

4. Employment Opportunity

Graduates work as police officers and at the National Intelligence Service, the Presidential Security Service, Military Investigation Agencies, and private security companies such as S-1(SECOM) and ADTCaps. Some of graduates have been employed as an auditor, a security officer, and a secretary in a various companies because of their thorough knowledge of public administration.
Educational objectives
The educational goal of the department is to nurture students who have capability of working in criminal justice and private security areas. The curriculum provides theory and practice of police as well as the fundamentals of laws and administration under the aim of protecting lives, properties, orders of the public.
